Well, one visit you have to make is the capitol. Luxembourg…. In a valley, with its wonderful nature, historic buildings…. And best on a sunny day! So we did…. It really is worthiness beautiful drive there…..
We had a quiet day this wednesday. Lunch in Echternach, shopping on the way back. So our afternoon walk we hiked the little trail to the close by waterfalls! Fantastic weather, so splendid conditions… I even descended the small path that looked to scary last week 😉 I’ll let the pictures do the talking…..

The oldest castle in Luxemburg, dates from 975…. Now no longer habitable, but wowwwwwwww….. and dogs visiting allowed 👍🏻 We really loved it, and the ride there is also wowwwwwwwww
In Ernzen you can find the Teuffelsschlucht! A natural miracle, very impressive… millions of years ago it was the bottom of the sea, and that worked an awesome natural monument…. Walking, climbing, descending with a constant wow factor…. Look at the pictures….

Well, this 2nd holiday Saturday Pieter had a surprise for me. He knew a place he was sure I had not been before. And yes, he was right about that! Castle Bourscheid! It is in a beautiful valley, so that alone is worth visiting! And dogs are allowed inside, so hurrayyyyyy…. Spot could be Lady of the Castle grinnnn…. Well, I’ll let the pictures speak instead of words….

We went to the Perekop today, in the Müllertal. Rock formations, waterfalls, trees and walking and climbing! It was fantastic, caves and cliffs! Like it was thousands of years ago! Just sharing some pics……

Tuesday we left early and took the scenic route to Clervaux! I had not been there in more then 40 years. So that was quite some time ago…. The ride there was sometimes even scary, well for me. Pieter loved that 20% descending road… *screaming* 😉. I visited the Abbey, and yes, did lite some candles…. Pieter and Spot enjoyed the sunshine outside. We saw the town, had a nice lunch and visited the castle….. ❤️❤️❤️ Clervaux…..
Today, wednesday we took a longer trip! This morning first to Trier… one of the most beautiful old towns… with the Porta Nigra, those old houses and wonderful atmosphere! UNESCO world heritage for a reason! We had lunch there, with view on the Porta Nigra, an ancient Roman Gate…
After lunch we took the road along the Moselle…. To Bernkastel Kues… we were there on our honeymoon and then it rained the whole time…. Wanted to see it in the sunlight…. It is almost as impressive as Sarlat… and we saw hotel Rosi, we’re we spend our honeymoon… and the beautiful Altstadt.. we found a nice terrace with yummie icecream… so a day we’ll spend!
Arrived in Wallendorf Pont saturday, en route we already saw the flood a few weeks ago did damage here too! We had lunch in Malmedy, a lovely town…. Our apartment is on the first floor, but the camping du Rivage suffered a lot of damage! After installing ourselves we did some shopping in Diekirch and found a nice terrace! A lot more strict COVID rules here, but that feels safe….
Sundaymorning a long walk with Spot, and then with a little detour through Beaufort (Wow Chateau) to Echternach which is a but bigger town! Alas we had rain, and that when I ordered sunshine grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr…. But we still had a nice day!
Today we went to Vianden, we’ve both visited there before, but it is such a beautiful town! It oozes history! Unfortunately they had flood damage to…. After a nice lunch at home a long walk with Spot, we even discovered a waterfall and she had a nice swim! First 3 days well spend…..

Tot ziens voor dit jaar dan…. na de regen nu optrekkende dauw, en dat was een mooi afscheidskado van de Dordogne, dus we stopten nog ff in Badefols….
Every vacation has to end, or it would not be vacation but every day life… but I am always sad to leave… I love the peace and quiet, I could live there permanent if it was not so far from family and work. We left around 8 am and were home around 8 pm… did it in 12 hours, including breaks…. yihaaaaaa for Pieter….
Iedere vakantie moet ook eindigen helaas… anders zou het ook geen vakantie zijn. Maar ik haat het om te moeten vertrekken, ik houd zo van de rust, de stilte, de omgeving eigenlijk alles… ik zou er kunnen wonen als het niet zo ver van familie en werk was! We deden exact 12 uur over de terugreis, dus fiks applaus voor Pieter….

Getting up and finding a card and a present is a great way to start your birthday, thank you Kate & Dave… a great view, swimming, mom and dad singing for me, coffee with birthdaycake…. love it… after lunch we left, took the scenic route via Milandes and Castelnaud to Beynac. Had a drink, a stroll, took lots of pics and had a great birthday dinner…. and a lovely sunset when we came home…. ✨✨✨✨✨day….
Wakker worden en een kadootje vinden, wát wil je nog meer op je verjaardag, dankjewel Kate en Dave… een mooi ochtenduitzicht, zwemmen, papa en mama die voor me zongen, koffie met taart…. ik houd er van…. na de lunch samen erop uit, via de mooie route, Milandes, Castelnaud naar Beynac. 4 favo kastelen op een dag (Marqueysac in de verte) Bij Beynac boven geparkeerd, wat gedronken, naar het uitzichtpunt geweest, rond het kasteel gelopen, veel foto’s gemaakt, nog weer wat gedronken en echt heerlijk samen gegeten, mmmmmmmmmmmmm…. en als afsluiter een mooie zonsondergang bij thuiskomst… dag met vele ✨✨✨✨✨

After a thunderstorm, waking up in the middle of the night and power gone came a fresh new morning, fresh emphasized grinnnnnn… had my morning swim, did some shopping in Bergerac and dinner at home. I had some energy left so went for an evening walk… finally not to hot for walking. Decided on a walk I did before, about an hour, starting at the old Bourniquel church. Well, pictures say more then words so let them do the talking….
Na een fikse donderbui, stroomuitval etc kwam een frisse nieuwe morgen, met de nadruk op fris….. iets later dan normaal, maar wél lekker gezwommen. En na de koffie naar Bergerac voor wat inkopen. Lekker op ons gemakje op ons stekkie gegeten…. Ik had nog een voorraad energie over, en het was eindelijk niet te warm voor een avondwandeling. Deze had ik een paar jaar terug ook al eens gemaakt, ruim een uurtje lopen, beginnen bij de oude kerk in Bourniquel. Plaatjes zeggen in dit geval meer dan praatjes, dus laat de foto’s maar het woord doen!

Home sweet home…
You can not visit the region and not visit Sarlat…. a traffic jam close to Beynac gave us a perfect picture opportunity. We had to look for a parkingspot more then 30 minutes, but then 💛Sarlat💛. We had a nice lunch, visited our favorite shops, had a walk through town, lit a few candles in the cathedral. And before we went back had some yummie icecream sitting in the shade. On our road back saw a fantastic chateau close to Saint Cyprien, in the forest…
Je kunt op vakantie in deze regio Sarlat niet overslaan… onderweg bij Beynac in de parkeerfile, maar toen kon ik mooi een foto maken. We moesten langer dan een half uur zoeken naar een parkeerplekje, zo druk was het. Maar toen waren we in 💛Sarlat💛. Eerst maar lekker gaan lunchen, daarna naar de bekende plekjes, onze favo winkeltjes bezoeken, en ja, ik moest ook een paar kaarsjes branden. Voor we teruggingen nog heerlijk ijs gegeten op een mooi plekje in de schaduw. Op de terugweg nog een ander mooi kasteel gezien, heerlijk gegeten met dank aan de bbq en een luie avond…
Well after the pictures from Jacob & Monique and the positive tips from Kate & Dave we decided to finally make the trip to Bordeaux! We passed so many vineyards must be enough for a world supply of French wine…. beautifull countryside, very different from the Dordogne. Bordeaux was founded 400 bc… so it is more then 2400 years old, part of it is on the Unesco world heritage list. You can find memories of the past everywere…. and yep, shops to….. but we were not that interested in shopping grin. We walked in the historic centre, saw buildings, monuments, lots and loads! Had a nice lunch, had fun in a local waterfun square, and I fell head over heels for an ancient Bell tower…. had a yummie frozen joghurt before we went home…
Na de vele foto’s van Jacob en Monique en de tips van Kate en Dave besloten we toch een keer de reis naar Bordeaux te maken! Onderweg mooie dorpjes, en velden en velden vol met druiven en wijnkastelen, genoeg om de wereld dronken te voeren….. een totaal ander landschap dan de Dordogne dus! Bordeaux werd 400 voor Chr gesticht door de Romeinen. Er is in de 2400 jaar geschiedenis veel om de stad gevochten. 300 jaar was het Engels grondgebied via Eleanora van Aquitanië. Er woonden veel Joden en daar waren er na WO2 nog weinig van in leven. Aan alle kanten zie en voel je geschiedenis. En veel winkels, maar die boeiden mij niet zo! Er was een groot plein aan de oevers van de rivier dat een waterspeelplaats is, lekker met 29 graden… dat vonden wij ook 😉. Het mooiste vond ik de Grosse Cloche, die stamt uit de 13e eeuw. Voor vertrek nog een heerlijk ijsje… dankjewel Bordeaux….
overigens, hier zagen we voor het eerst veel daklozen en bedelaars, en mensen die volledig op straat leven 😥
Today we did nothing, yes some swimming and reading, relaxing…. all those books downstairs I don’t know (yet….). So I thought this picture quite fitting, from an artist in Monpazier….
Deze maandag helemaal niets gedaan, luieren en lezen…. en zwemmen… en Pieter wat muziek maken… us deze foto is wel passend, kunst die we in Monpazier zagen zondag… erg mooi en erg duur…. 
We saw this in Saint-Avit, I have always been fascinated by them. How they work, and how someone long ago thought to make one and it spread worldwide….
Maybe time to get one ourselves….
Zonnewijzers, ik heb ze altijd al fascinerend gevonden…. deze zagen we in Saint-Avit en hij is erg mooi… dat iemand zo lang geleden dit bedacht heeft….

It might get boring, but breakfast on the balcony again… and after coffee en route! We did not have a real plan, but Monpazier on our mind. We both love Monpazier…. and more people do, we had to search for a parking spot! Had a nice stroll through the town, I lit some candles in the old church and we found a great place for a drink. To early for lunch, and we had found a brochure from chateau de Biron, which we had not visited before so we got back to the car! When you see the chateau from a distance you fall hook, line and sinker! It is impressive, imposing, wowwwwwwww! More then a thousand years old (part of it) fought over in the 100 year war, it oozes history. We had the complete tour, saw some great views, this really is a must visit place! We really gave this high notes…. We went back to Monpazier for lunch, had great food, but also lots of fun for Pieter, who had a jamsession with another guitar addict… both the guitar players and the audience had a great time… for the evening Kate & Dave had invited us for a bbq…. which was great, yummie food and fantastic company is the perfect recipe for a nice evening…
Het wordt wellicht vervelend, maar weer ontbijt op het balkon…. en na de koffie op pad! We hadden niet echt een plan, maar wel Monpazier in ons hoofd! We zijn beiden weg van dat stadje…. en dat zijn meer mensen, ff zoeken naar een parkeerplek. De hele bastide door geweest, ja, kaarsjes gebrand in de oude kerk en lekker wat gedronken op een terrasje. We kregen ook en brochure van chateau de Biron, waar we nog niet eerder waren en dat leek ons wel erg leuk! Als je aan komt rijden val je al als een blok! Echt indrukwekkend, imposant mooi! Delen ervan meer dan 1000 jaar oud, om gevochten in de 100 jarige oorlog, eigendom geweest van Simon de Monfort….. het straalt aan alle kanten geschiedenis uit. Lunchen konden we daar niet, dus terug naar Monpazier, ritje was al geweldig! En toen een lekkere lunch, met als kers op de taart een andere gitaarverslaafde met twee gitaren, jam sessie dus voor Pieter die genoot… was meer dan leuk…. en na deze geweldige dag ook een avond met een sterretje, een bbq bij Kate en Dave… lekker eten en goed gezelschap zijn het beste recept…

The afternoon with almost 40 degrees was a time for swimming and reading in the shadow…. and use the evening to go somewere nice, so we did! We went for a drive, and came to Saint-Avit Senieur, with an Abbey that was founded in the 7th century, fought over in the 100 year war and is breathtaking for someone with a thing for history! Not much else to do there, so we had a walk on the Abbey grounds, saw a great view and got back in the car and went to Beaumont. Thought to find a terrace and have a nice cold sorbet overthere. But it was closed except for a sushi car lol! The town is great, but a ghosttown after 8 Pm 😉. So after a 2nd walk we decided to go to Cadouin, were they do sell the best ice there is around…. that was yummie… so a well spend evening….
Zulke warme middagen (zowat 40 graden) moet je enkel zwemmen en een boek lezen in de schaduw….. en juist de avond nog ‘wat doen’. Dat hebben we dus gedaan, na het eten met de auto er op uit. We vonden een gehucht, Saint-Avit Senieur met een Abdij die zijn grondvesten heeft in de 7e eeuw, veel Merovingische invloeden. Er is om gevochten tijdens de 100 jarige oorlog, gezien de strategische hoge ligging niet vreemd. Als je ‘iets’ hebt met geschiedenis een wow-plek dus! Een mooi uitzicht hebben ze er ook nog, maar we wilden een ijsje, dus op naar Beaumont, een bastide stadje dichtbij! Alleen s’avonds is het een spookstadje, wel mooi, maar enkel een sushi snackwagen! Dus na even rondlopen in de auto naar Cadouin, waar ze vlakbij de Abdij daar eigengemaakt ijs verkopen, mmmmmmmmmmmmm….. dus een welbestede avond, zeker met die mooie zonsondergang op de terugweg…
